Severus looked at her and smiled.
“You have such incredible talents,” he said softly, leaning against a tree. It was Saturday afternoon, a beautiful day of spring, and all the students were out, around the lake, enjoying the warm weather.
“Other than pissing you off with my love for flowers and small animals?” she asked, trying not to laugh. Severus cracked a smile and shook his head.
“No, I mean you really are special. And… too good for that goober. I mean look at him,” he put on his face a sad smile and looked around for James. “Look at him, flirting with all those stupid girls.”
Lily was leaning against him, her head on his shoulder. She looked a bit sad at James, then at Severus.
“Sev. Would you ever, ever hurt me?” she asked in a broken voice.
“Never, Lily.”
She sat bolt upright while Severus got up. She put forth her palm and looked in it, like there was something invisible. For a second, there was nothing but her sweaty skin. In the next second, there started growing a white flower, like those who used to grow on her family’s fields.
“How’s this one, Sev?” she asked hopefully, smiling at him.
“This is beautiful, Lily,” Severus said, keeping the eye contact, not even looking closer at the small plant. “Just like you.”
Like… they go to school and the teachers read throught the list of names and be like. Wtf is this, why is half of my class named Severus.
“I’m proud of you, Spencer.”
“I don’t care.”
“Sure you do. Otherwise you could’ve just … oh, I don’t know, maybe killed me?”
“Who says I won’t?”
“Such a brave little boy you are. But your eyes give you away. You love me, Spencer.”
“Why didn’t you kill me then, when you had the chance to? You’re not as heartless as you try to be, Katherine, are you?”
